While autopsy results are still pending, it’s being reported that Prince had a major addiction to Percocet, and he was found with prescription painkillers in his possession when he died last week.
Sources told TMZ Prince was first prescribed the powerful painkiller in 2009 when he suffered from hip problems, and despite a corrective surgery in 2010, he became addicted to the pills. Federal law enforcement officials are currently investigating who prescribed the drug and who filled the prescriptions.
Authorities told NBC News yesterday that the music icon had pills in his possession at the time of death and elsewhere in his home, and local Sheriff Jim Olson told reporters that day that there were “no signs” of trauma on Prince’s body. Olson added that medical responders did not use Narcan, an emergency treatment to reverse drug overdoses, when they responded to the 911 call.
Prince was found dead in an elevator at his Paisley Park estate in Chanhassen, Minnesota, on April 21, and an autopsy was completed the following day. Authorities said during a press conference that it could be weeks before the results will be released, as they are running a full panel of tests to determine the cause of death.
