Penn State stuns Ohio State, shakes up playoff race

We should know better by now than to think the four College Football Playoff teams already were locks in October.

We thought Alabama, Clemson, Washington and the winner of Michigan-Ohio State were destined to be the last four teams standing, and while that certainly still could happen, unranked Penn State threw a wrench in those plans Saturday.

The Nittany Lions earned a stunning 24-21 home win over the No. 2 Buckeyes on Saturday night after trailing by two touchdowns heading into the fourth quarter. But Trace McSorley’s touchdown run and a field goal put Penn State down four with 9:33 left.

They completed the comeback when they blocked a Tyler Davis field-goal attempt, which Grant Haley returned for a touchdown.

Ohio State had one last chance to save its undefeated season, but it wasn’t meant to be, although it almost drew a pass interference on a controversial no-call.

College football never disappoints.
